How to Train Your Dragon: Live-Action Adaptation Teaser Released
How to Train Your Dragon is one of the most successful animated film franchises in DreamWorks’ history, with its journey spanning over a decade since its debut in 2010. The trilogy officially concluded in 2019 with three feature films: How to Train Your Dragon (2010), How to Train Your Dragon 2 (2014), and How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (2019).
However, the world of How to Train Your Dragon continues to thrive, especially with the recent release of the first teaser for the live-action version of this beloved franchise by Universal Pictures.
The teaser reveals that the live-action adaptation will closely follow the storyline of the first animated film. To prove himself worthy as a Viking, Hiccup, our main character, must slay a dragon, despite his doubts about having the strength and courage to do so.
The “victim” chosen by Hiccup is none other than the famous dragon, Toothless. The lovable and unique personality of Toothless eases Hiccup’s pressure to prove himself, leading to a beautiful friendship that blossoms between the two characters—an essential element that carries throughout the three films. The relationship between Hiccup and Toothless is likely to be the central theme of the live-action version as well.
Another notable aspect in the teaser is the design of Toothless, which closely resembles the original animated version but has been enhanced with more detailed features to suit a live-action film. Other characters, especially Hiccup, have also received positive feedback for their resemblance to their animated counterparts.
The live-action How to Train Your Dragon will feature actors Julian Dennison, Gabriel Howell, Bronwyn James, Gerard Butler, and Mason Thames. Dean DeBlois will serve as director, screenwriter, and producer for this project, having previously crafted the storylines for all three animated films.
How to Train Your Dragon live-action adaptation is set to hit theaters on June 13, 2025.
