T1 Sparks Controversy
Recently, the categories for The Game Awards 2024 have been officially announced. Among these, T1 and League of Legends have been prominent in the nominations, including: Best Esports Team (T1), Best Esports Player (Faker), and Best Esports Game (League of Legends).
However, the main point of contention here is that the year 2024 does not truly reflect T1’s success, if we dare say it has not been markedly better than 2023. The achievements at the international tournament for T1 remain completely blank. Moreover, they still have to qualify for the World Championship through the play-ins.
Looking at the international scene, T1 can only boast one significant achievement: the official qualification for the World Championship. Furthermore, their status at MSI 2024 has not changed compared to last year. The EWC 2024 title that T1 secured has yet to be recognized as a major Esports or League of Legends tournament by Riot. Therefore, it can be said that T1’s achievements in 2024 are “treading water,” if not slightly worse than last year’s.
Fans Discontent with T1’s Results
Across various platforms, fans have expressed their dissatisfaction with T1’s results. They believe that the achievements of the team at the World Championship are “unprecedented,” but it is clear that League of Legends and Esports do not only revolve around the World Championship. A notable opinion states: “NA’VI has achieved far more than T1 last year by participating in 7 tournaments and winning 4 of them. So why was TGA not awarded to them?”
Additionally, the personal performance of Faker has also raised eyebrows among many fans. Despite this, the controversy surrounding Faker’s nomination seems to have diminished somewhat since he performed exceptionally well at the 2024 World Championship.
It can be said that only with the prominent categories, TGA 2024 has ignited fierce controversy. And this situation does not truly bring a positive impact to T1 – the team has had to endure much drama since their World Championship victory in 2024 till now.
