After Goku transformed into Super Saiyan 3 in Dragon Ball Z, fans were eager to know what would happen next. However, the answer came many years later in Dragon Ball GT, with the introduction of Super Saiyan 4.
This transformation certainly surprised fans, as this form is not only extremely powerful but also boasts the most beautiful appearance in the series.
Why Didn’t Super Saiyan 4 Appear in Dragon Ball Super?
Despite being a grand transformation in Goku’s arsenal, Super Saiyan 4 has never appeared in Dragon Ball Super, leaving some fans puzzled. It turns out that Dragon Ball GT was produced by Toei Animation as a side story, featuring events that do not intersect with Dragon Ball Super.
Toei Animation and Shueisha consider Dragon Ball GT a part of the Dragon Ball franchise, but that doesn’t mean it is the official storyline, as the manga author Akira Toriyama was hardly involved in the anime’s production. Toriyama contributed to the setting and character designs, but he himself views Dragon Ball GT as a side story.
Super Saiyan 4 Could Exist in One of the Timelines of Dragon Ball Super
While Super Saiyan 4 originates from a parallel story that doesn’t intersect with Dragon Ball Super, the series has indicated that there are different timelines due to changes caused by time travel.
It is quite possible that the story of Dragon Ball GT takes place in one of these timelines, providing a perfect explanation to legitimize the Super Saiyan 4 transformation in Dragon Ball Super, while also clarifying why the Goku we know does not use it.
Super Saiyan 4 May Still Appear in Dragon Ball Super
Although Super Saiyan 4 is not considered official, it is highly likely that it will be standardized and introduced in Dragon Ball Super, as the series has a perfect opportunity to make this happen.
Just as Dragon Ball Super legitimized Broly and created an upgraded version of this Saiyan warrior, Super Saiyan 4 could undergo a similar transformation process, particularly for the Saiyans in Universe 6 of Dragon Ball Super. This would allow them to become unique in their own way, as the series takes advantage of one of the best Saiyan forms.
