Snow White: The Audience Only Cares About the Evil Queen

The trailer for the live-action "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" has been criticized due to the lead actress Rachel Zegler. The evil queen role played by Gal Gadot has been praised by audiences for standing out more than Snow White.

Live-Action Version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Releases Trailer on August 10

The live-action adaptation of Disney’s classic animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs has dropped its first trailer, showcasing Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. Both characters feature prominently in the teaser.

In the trailer, we see the iconic bob hairstyle of Snow White as she is surrounded by the seven dwarfs. Key plot elements are highlighted, including the poisoned apple, the Queen’s conversations with the magic mirror, her transformation into an old woman, the meeting between the prince and Snow White, and the pivotal moment when the princess becomes lost in the deep forest.

Directed by Marc Webb, known for his work on The Amazing Spider-Man, this version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs reinterprets the original 1937 animated film. The original story revolves around Snow White fleeing from her castle after her stepmother becomes envious of her beauty, to the extent that she orders a hunter to kill her. The hunter, unable to harm the princess, allows Snow White to escape to a small house in the deep forest, where she meets the seven dwarfs.

Upon discovering that Snow White is still alive, the Evil Queen visits the dwarfs’ cottage and gives her a poisoned apple. After being poisoned, Snow White is eventually awakened by the true love’s kiss from the prince.

The trailer has sparked continued criticism as viewers express dissatisfaction with Rachel Zegler’s portrayal of Snow White. Many argue that Zegler deviates from the original character, overshadowed by Gal Gadot’s commanding presence as the Queen.

Comments from audiences reflect their sentiments: “There’s no reason for the Evil Queen to be jealous of Snow White,” “Gal Gadot carries this film. She makes a difference in just 10 short seconds,” “When the magic mirror says Snow White is the fairest, I thought everyone in the theater would say that mirror is broken,” “If I were an advisor to the Queen, I’d recommend she buy a new mirror that doesn’t lie,” “This is a film that many are rooting for the villain.” These reactions came after Disney released the trailer.

In this live-action adaptation, songs from the original animated film will be included, along with new compositions being introduced.

When asked about the “modern twist” of the live-action film, both Zegler and Gadot mentioned that Snow White will not be saved by a prince.

“Snow White does not dream of true love. She wants to be a leader, she knows she can do it. Her late father encouraged her that she could achieve anything if she is brave, fair, and sincere. It’s an incredible story for young people to see themselves in,” Zegler stated.

Gadot expressed her gratitude for portraying a role vastly different from her previous types. “I savored every moment of filming this,” she said.

The film was originally slated for release on March 22, but has been postponed to March 21, 2025, due to the SAG-AFTRA strike.
