Signs of Abnormal Behavior
Xiao Chen, a sixth-grade student living in Shunde District, Foshan City, Guangdong Province, spent his entire summer vacation without traveling or playing sports. In fact, he barely stepped out of the house. Initially, his parents thought their son was just lazy and enjoyed sleeping in until the afternoon, so they did not raise any concerns. However, when this behavior persisted for several consecutive days, they began to feel uneasy.
One day, out of curiosity, Xiao Chen’s father checked his son’s phone and tablet, only to be shocked and stunned by what he discovered. The reason the 11-year-old boy was sleeping all day was that he had been staying up all night chatting with a female streamer.
Notably, the content discussed between the 11-year-old boy and the female streamer was of an adult nature.
The female streamer used suggestive language, sent enticing videos, and both exchanged sensitive images. Previously, the boy had even stolen money from his parents, donating 10,000 yuan (over 35 million VND) to her without their knowledge.
Once they regained their composure, Xiao Chen’s parents reported the matter to the police.
The streamer, identified as Anchor Zhou, is 41 years old. When she goes live, she uses various beauty filters to appear younger and to showcase a sexy figure.
The People’s Court of Shunde District in Foshan City, Guangdong, recently adjudicated the case. The female streamer was sentenced to three years in prison for child sexual abuse, despite not having physical contact with the boy. Online communities agree that while the nature of sensitive online conversations differs from traditional child sexual abuse, the intrusive impact it causes is equally serious.
Additionally, the fact that an 11-year-old boy was able to go online, download software to watch streams, and even donate money to the female streamer raises concerns about parental supervision. It calls for closer attention and oversight to prevent undesirable consequences.
