Riot offers billions of dong in rewards for the biggest dilemma in League of Legends, possibly due to T1

Riot considers itself "helpless" due to the issues directly affecting T1 as well as professional League of Legends.

Riot Implicitly Confirms T1’s Issues and Ongoing DDoS Problems in Professional League of Legends

On the evening of November 25 (Vietnam time), many viewers were shocked to see that DDoS attacks were still ongoing despite the conclusion of the 2024 season. Specifically, Doran, after joining T1, has continually faced this issue while playing ranked games. As a result, the reigning LCK champions were unable to train effectively, despite multiple attempts to find a match.

Doran also fell victim to DDoS attacks

Even Riot has shown how powerless they are in this situation. Recently, a surprising post on HackerNews stirred the IT community. The post announced a reward of approximately $100,000 (2.5 billion VND) for anyone who could find a solution to the persistent DDoS issues in League of Legends.

Among the listed tasks, “DDoS attacks targeting specific players” and “Choose to disconnect certain game matches” have the highest rewards. These tasks seem to have been added to Riot’s previous post offering rewards for hackers who could identify system vulnerabilities, including security, Vanguard, or server errors.

Does T1 Influence Riot’s Decisions?

In reality, T1 is believed to be the team most affected by DDoS attacks. Throughout 2024, T1 has publicly addressed DDoS issues at least twice during press conferences. The team has attempted to find solutions, but all efforts have been in vain.

Moreover, if T1 continues to face DDoS attacks, it will also negatively impact the image of Riot and professional League of Legends, including the LCK organizing committee. This reveals a significant weakness in protecting the rights of teams and players. Additionally, if professional players are affected by DDoS attacks, it is understandable that regular players would also face inconveniences, leading to a negative perception of League of Legends or Riot.

T1’s influence may impact Riot’s decisions

However, no one can predict whether the “reward” method will be effective, especially given the long-standing and increasingly complex nature of the problem.
