Gambit, portrayed by Channing Tatum, is perhaps one of the most surprising and impressive cameo roles in Deadpool & Wolverine. As a result, the fate of this character has always been a hot topic of discussion among fans, especially since the film’s credits hinted that Gambit survived after the monster Alioth swept through Cassandra Nova’s base.
Recently, Ryan Reynolds, the actor who plays Wade Wilson, officially addressed this issue in a video believed to be a cut credit from Deadpool & Wolverine. The video focuses entirely on Gambit, who appears to be safe after the battle with Cassandra Nova’s army in The Void. Moreover, Gambit seems to have escaped this chaotic realm through a portal created by a mysterious character.
Cut credit from Deadpool & Wolverine shows Gambit still alive and seemingly escaped from The Void – Video: Ryan Reynolds.
On his personal Instagram, Ryan Reynolds confirmed that this cut credit was actually used in the official release of Deadpool & Wolverine, showcased through one of the monitoring screens at the TVA headquarters. However, Marvel Studios has yet to provide any official confirmation regarding Gambit’s fate or future projects for the character.
For now, Gambit might make a return in the upcoming two Avengers films – Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. These films are expected to conclude the Multiverse Saga, presenting a final opportunity for Marvel Studios to deliver an extravagant cameo fest similar to what they achieved with Deadpool & Wolverine. Gambit, along with numerous superheroes and supervillains from previous Marvel projects, will have the chance to participate in the most monumental multiverse battle.
Channing Tatum previously missed out on the role of Gambit when the standalone film for the character in the X-Men universe was canceled. Therefore, his cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine can be seen as a consolation gift from Marvel Studios to the actor. However, with the newly revealed video by Ryan Reynolds, it appears that the studio has more plans for Channing than just a fan-service role.
It is likely that Marvel Studios deliberately removed the Gambit-centric credit because they wanted to gauge audience reception for the character. Now that Channing Tatum’s character is receiving positive reactions from fans, Marvel may feel confident in revealing the previously prepared credit, and the future for Gambit in the MCU seems more promising than ever. Some sources suggest that after the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga, Marvel will delve deeper into the mutants in the Mutant Saga, and Gambit has a great opportunity to debut alongside the new X-Men team in the MCU.
