The Mysterious Character of One Piece
Imu remains one of the most enigmatic characters in One Piece for a long time. This individual sits on the empty Throne at the Holy Land of Mary Geoise and rules the entire world from the shadows. No one, except for the Five Elders, knows about Imu’s existence.
However, that’s all we have known about Imu for quite some time. The character’s true identity and gender have been kept a secret for various reasons. These secrets are expected to lead to a shocking revelation at some point in the future.
Nevertheless, hiding the character’s gender is easier in the manga than in the anime, which has become a concern for One Piece fans. According to some fans, the anime should not assign a male or female voice to Imu, preferring to keep it ambiguous for a later reveal.
One Piece Fans Make Their Demands
One fan expressed their thoughts: “We will soon hear Imu’s voice in the anime, but I hope they will mix male and female tones to maintain the mystery.”
“They could handle it like in Naruto, using Tobi’s voice and then revealing Madara’s voice, while keeping Obito’s voice at the end,” another fan suggested, drawing inspiration from Naruto Shippuden.
However, many also point out that the manga may have already hinted at Imu’s gender. In One Piece, this mysterious ruler frequently uses male speech patterns, implying that he has been a man from the beginning.
“I think it’s been confirmed for the 50th time that Imu is male, through the way he speaks and how others talk about him, but maybe Oda is just messing with me,” a user commented.
Another shared: “It’s a guy, man. I think this fandom should just accept that.”
Although there has been no official confirmation regarding Imu’s gender, the anime may ultimately provide the answer to this debated question. The One Piece anime is made under the direct supervision of Eiichiro Oda, so any gender revealed in the anime will be considered official.
