Faker vs. Chovy: Who Deserves The Game Awards 2024?
On the evening of November 18 (Vietnam time), The Game Awards 2024 (TGA 2024) officially announced the nominees for this year’s award categories. Notably, in the Best Esports Player category, the legendary duo of “fierce rivals,” Faker and Chovy, have been nominated.
Following the nominations, a heated debate erupted among fans of the candidates and neutral viewers. Many opinions suggest that throughout Spring 2024 until before the World Championship, Faker did not perform well. Faker and T1 have almost gone empty-handed in all competitions, except for the Esports World Cup 2024. However, the EWC 2024 is not an official tournament in the esports scene, making its impact less significant.
Despite breaking numerous records at the 2024 World Championship, it would be difficult to convince others if Faker were to win due to the overall performance throughout the year.
On the other hand, Chovy also had a rocky year. Particularly, out of the five tournaments he participated in, he finished empty-handed three times. The most significant of these was undoubtedly the 2024 World Championship, where he faced defeat directly at the hands of Faker.
It can be said that regardless of who among these two players wins, it will still lead to endless debates. Overall, 2024 was not a perfect year for either, especially for Faker.
However, Faker’s Chances of Winning Are High
Among the six nominees, Faker is the most renowned and influential. Moreover, his achievements in 2024, while limited to the 2024 World Championship title and FMVP, are remarkable and unlikely to be duplicated.
Faker has become the only player in League of Legends history to successfully defend the World Championship title twice and secure FMVP in the finals of this tournament twice. Winning, similar to the Champions League in football, is already difficult enough, let alone defending the title. Yet, Faker has achieved this feat twice in less than a decade.
Thus, Faker is likely to be chosen as the winner. And while there may be controversies, it is clear that few can deny Faker’s greatness and his exceptional achievements alongside T1 this year.
