Will LCK and LPL Teams Face More Challenges?
As we know, major regions like LCK and LPL (which also house multiple championship titles, including World Championship) have been awarded four slots to participate in the prestigious competition for several years now. Additionally, Riot has just announced that the champions of MSI will also earn their spot in the World Championship’s group stage this year. This is seen as a “buff” for LCK and LPL, as MSI champions will likely dominate the competition in these two regions.
Recently, according to YSKM – a player from Invictus Gaming shared on their streaming channel, starting in 2025, the teams representing LCK and LPL will have to compete in one additional match to qualify for the World Championship. While the source of this information is uncertain, it has sparked considerable debate within the community.
In fact, in at least the last three consecutive World Championships, the fourth seed from both LCK and LPL has performed exceptionally well in this competitive environment. Notably, there have been instances where the fourth seed from LCK won the championship title (DRX, T1). Therefore, the potential elimination of any fourth seed could lead to disappointment among fans.
How is the information regarding LCK and LPL structured?
Currently, one of the two fourth seeds being eliminated would mean a reduction in the slots available for the World Championship. However, Riot has yet to officially announce this. Additionally, LCK and LPL are two of the three regions that will not merge into a larger region. Riot has also not announced any increase in slots for merged regions. Therefore, there is no reason to believe that the slots for LCK and LPL will be cut.
Moreover, the information coming from YSKM and the team itself has not disclosed any source for their announcement. Therefore, the community should remain skeptical. When the leading sources in the League of Legends community or Riot have not confirmed, it is best to treat all claims with caution.
