Godzilla is considered a monumental icon of Japanese cinema and the global film industry. Throughout its history on the big screen, the King of Monsters has faced numerous super-beasts to assert its top position, whether kaiju, advanced giant robots, or colossal primates aiming to dominate their own island.
However, during its reign, Godzilla has never clashed with the Transformers – one of the most renowned toy (and later film) franchises from Japan and the United States. The dream of seeing Godzilla share a frame with Autobots or Decepticons remains the grandest fantasy for fans of both franchises.
Currently, there are no official plans to merge the Cybertron universe with the MonsterVerse on the big screen. However, the toy industry has somewhat satisfied fans’ desires with a product line called “dual dragons,” featuring robots like Optimus Prime and Megatron alongside MechaGodzilla and Godzilla.
Specifically, this is a new product line under Takara Tomy’s Synergenex Series. In sharing about the collaboration between Transformers and MonsterVerse, the company stated: “This is a partnership between two of Japan’s most globally recognized brands! To celebrate 70 years of Godzilla and 40 years of Transformers, we will launch two products: Megatron Type Godzilla – a Godzilla variant; and Optimus Prime Type 3 Kiryu, a MechaGodzilla variant. In animated series and films, Transformers are established to scan vehicles on Earth and transform into those vehicles.”

The Godzilla x Transformers model will officially hit the shelves in 2025, with pre-orders starting this fall. For movie fans, they can catch Transformers in the animated film Transformers One (premiering September 20 in North America), which recounts the early days of Optimus and Megatron before they became adversaries. Additionally, Paramount is nurturing a crossover project between Transformers and G.I. Joe, combining Autobots and Decepticons with Duke, Snake Eyes, Cobra Commander, and Destroy.
Meanwhile, MonsterVerse fans may have to wait a little longer for upcoming monster movie projects. Currently, Warner Bros. is developing the third standalone film for Godzilla x Kong, and Apple TV is rapidly producing season 2 of Monarch: Legacy of Monster along with several spin-off projects from the MonsterVerse.
