Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero Introduces a Brand-New Character for the Dragon Ball Universe: Gohan Black
One of the standout features of the latest game installment in the Budokai Tenkaichi series is the introduction of special missions that allow players to imagine how the Dragon Ball storyline could unfold differently in various arcs. This distinct aspect will lead to significant changes.
Similar to the concept of alternate timelines, the “What If” scenarios presented in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero can drastically alter the original narrative. Among these changes, the most impactful involves Gohan’s role in all these new scenarios.
In fact, throughout Dragon Ball Super, Gohan had stepped back from training after the events of the Majin Buu arc. Now, Sparking! Zero presents a scenario where Gohan fully embraces his initial role, becoming the most powerful warrior in the universe, akin to Goku’s legacy as the strongest fighter of Earth.
Does Gohan Become the Strongest Warrior in the Dragon Ball Universe?
Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero allows players to change the events of Dragon Ball Super by placing Gohan in the spotlight. In the Resurrection F arc, instead of being completely overpowered by Frieza, Gohan has the potential to regain his full strength during battles. He even reaches the Ultimate Gohan state, giving him the power to not only hold his own against Frieza but also to confront his Golden Frieza form. This is a significant shift compared to the original series, where Goku and Vegeta were the only ones capable of fighting the main antagonist in their Super Saiyan Blue forms.
This scenario sets off a chain of major events, inspiring Gohan to train rigorously alongside Piccolo, especially after he faces Golden Frieza. As Gohan trains more intensely, he becomes the strongest warrior in Universe 7, surpassing both his father and Vegeta. In subsequent battles, Gohan emerges as a key leader throughout the conflict, even engaging in battles with Hit. This showcases an impressive dynamic during the fights between two notable characters with significant power levels.
As the events of Future Trunks unfold, Gohan remains the strongest warrior. Future Trunks arrives and is amazed at Gohan’s strength. Just as Future Trunks suspects Goku to be someone else in the main series, he initially confuses Gohan with another character. Later, when Future Trunks tries to explain himself, a powerful version of Gohan appears as an evil counterpart from Trunks’ timeline. Much like Goku Black before him, this character is Gohan Black and possesses immense power similar to Goku Black from the main series.
Who is Gohan Black?
In the altered events portrayed in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, Gohan also travels through Future Trunks’ timeline to battle Gohan Black alongside Goku and Vegeta. This character is on par with Goku Black and even collaborates with Zamasu in a similar fashion. He shares the Zero Mortals Plan but is distinctly characterized by a powerful form of Gohan Black, representing a dark version of Ultimate Gohan. This form isn’t merely a Super Saiyan transformation but is significantly stronger, as Gohan has unlocked his full potential twice through Elder Kai during this timeline.
The battle against Gohan Black unfolds differently. The origin of Gohan Black is similar to that in the original series, as he is essentially a Zamasu from an alternate past. In this version, Gohan fights against Zamasu and proves to be a formidable opponent, showing that the villain cannot underestimate the power of mortals. Zamasu has utilized the Dragon Balls to transform into Gohan Black, after which he ultimately connects with Videl and Pan. This emotional connection causes Gohan to become enraged, though Goku remains present to guide his son and focus on the battle at hand. Subsequently, the fight continues, and Gohan Black teams up with Zamasu.
Fused Zamasu in this scenario resembles his original counterpart but has a hairstyle reminiscent of Gohan’s more than Goku’s. However, the battle against this divine version also plays out differently due to Gohan’s involvement. Future Trunks and Gohan share a deeper bond and can apply pressure on Zamasu together. Gohan learns the Evil Containment Wave technique from Piccolo, and this time, it is employed effectively.
In the final showdown against Zamasu, Trunks and Gohan combine their Masenkos to strike at the deity. With Gohan utilizing the Evil Containment Wave, he may be able to completely defeat Zamasu, sealing him away and stopping the timeline of Future Trunks. Afterward, Gohan is freed to return home, where he can lead a peaceful life and ensure his family’s safety throughout this timeline.
