The “All-Star” Lineup of LPL Faces Disappointing Results at Demacia Cup
Typically, major regions like LPL or LCK will host a showmatch-type event for teams after the transfer season, allowing members to get acquainted in practice matches. However, it’s not always that these top teams achieve the expected results in what could be considered a “friendly” competition. The recent case of JD Gaming at the 2024 Demacia Cup exemplifies this situation.
In a long-awaited tournament, LPL, JDG featured a roster composed entirely of star players who are set to compete in the upcoming season, including rookies like Ale and Scout. However, despite securing two wins, they were unexpectedly defeated by ThunderTalk Gaming and placed in the C group, leading to a disappointing elimination.
Specifically, the rookie Peyz, in his debut tournament, did not showcase the expected performance. It’s important to note that these were BO1 matches, but JDG failed to capitalize on the opportunities presented to them.
LPL Doesn’t Provide Easy Opportunities for “Super Star” Peyz
As Peyz transitioned to the LPL, he faced the challenge of stepping into the shoes of the renowned player Ruler. However, JDG is not Gen.G, and Peyz currently does not have outstanding teammates to support him as he did in the LCK.
Furthermore, when Ruler moved to the LPL, he solidified his skills and reputation. In contrast, Peyz only has the experiences of winning LCK and MSI to rely on. However, it’s crucial to recognize that Peyz’s play style tends to lean towards a “one-man army” approach. This tendency only works if the team builds around him or if he emerges as a superstar like Ruler.
It remains unclear if JDG can create the best environment for Peyz to develop, but he has already started facing difficulties. Moreover, Peyz joined JDG amid a transfer drama, and it won’t be surprising to say that the 2024 Demacia Cup is merely the beginning. The journey ahead for both Peyz and JDG could certainly be more challenging.
