Boruto: Two Blue Vortex continues to unfold in the next major arc of the manga, and the latest chapter is complicating matters as Uzumaki Boruto finds himself caught in a love triangle. The recent chapters of Boruto have focused on preparing the Hidden Leaf Village for what comes next in their battle against the God Tree. However, time is of the essence, as the Sand Village is currently in the crosshairs of the God Tree, and they need to act quickly.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is gearing up for Uchiha Sarada’s next big mission in the Sand Village to assist Gaara against this new enemy, but she is unexpectedly confronted with a new encounter with Sumire.
While both are still the only ones unaffected by Eida’s Omniscience power, it turns out that they might be sharing another significant secret, as both may have feelings for Boruto. At least in Sumire’s case, she begins to feel jealous about how Sarada rushes into Boruto’s arms when they finally reunite after years apart.
Boruto pushes Sarada and Sumire into a love triangle
In Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 16, Sarada and Sumire meet with Eida to try to learn more about what Boruto is planning next. Eida informs them that Boruto is attempting to keep both of them away from danger by shouldering more responsibility himself. Sumire realizes that the more people who know Boruto’s whereabouts, the more they become targets of the Leaf Village (as they have publicly supported Boruto, a ninja considered a traitor to the village). With this in mind, Sumire begins to express her feelings.
She asserts that Sarada isn’t genuinely considering Boruto’s feelings, nor her own. Sumire then questions why, knowing how much she likes Boruto, Sarada jumped into his arms as soon as they reunited after a three-year timeskip. She held back from asking, wanting to respect Sarada’s feelings at that moment, but she couldn’t help but wonder why Sarada acted that way, aware of Sumire’s feelings for Boruto. Sarada was at a loss for words, and Sumire left in distress, indicating that neither of them views their friendship in the same light.
Fans have previously speculated about Sarada’s romantic feelings for Boruto, but this is now brought to the forefront as each character has matured. This is something that concerns Sumire, and it’s clear she was hurt when they first saw Boruto after all those years. Sumire believes Sarada is a close friend, but Sarada does not reciprocate those feelings, which leaves Sumire quite hurt.
Even Eida, witnessing the situation, realizes how awkward it is, yet she can’t help but support Boruto. She is fully aware of what Boruto is doing but continues to assist him by choosing to keep secrets. While she still wants to be with Kawaki as her partner, she at least begins to see Boruto in a more comprehensive light now.
