Although both the anime and manga of Attack on Titan concluded not long ago, the franchise has made a comeback with a new project to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Hajime Isayama’s original manga. This film compiles events from the final special episodes of the anime and also reveals an entirely new scene that takes place after everything else.
Anime Attack on Titan: The Last Attack is currently showing in theaters across Japan.
The after-credit scene of the film has finally brought Goth Mikasa Ackerman to the small screen after years of anticipation from fans.
The Last Attack has adapted designs from Attack on School Castes, where Isayama envisioned the appearance of each character as young individuals in our modern world. This means that Mikasa’s fan-favorite design has finally received a well-deserved anime adaptation.
What happens in the new after-credit scene of Attack on Titan?
The after-credit scene of Attack on Titan: The Last Attack reveals a whimsical imagining of a happy ending for all the characters. It showcases the everyday version of the characters seen in the special promotional materials of Attack on School Castes. They continue to live their very ordinary and happy lives after the events of the film.
While the redesigns of Eren and Armin are quite standard, Mikasa’s transformation is completely different from what Mikasa fans have seen throughout the airing of Attack on Titan. This version has become a fan favorite after they first saw the initial sketches, and it has even been officially incorporated into the series as part of the many timelines and potential futures that Eren glimpsed when he utilized the full power of the Founding Titan towards the grand conclusion of the anime. It turns out the anime production team also loved this design.
Why is Goth Mikasa so special?
Attack on School Castes is a series of fictional previews for the Attack on Titan manga, written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama. Here, the author has given each character a new look in a modern-day setting. Goth Mikasa has truly impressed audiences compared to the new looks of other characters.
Isayama later incorporated this into the official story by making a subtle reference to this Mikasa design in the manga. It was subsequently included in the official anime adaptation of the Attack on Titan conclusion.
It turns out that bringing Goth Mikasa into the anime was a special request from Isayama himself as an Easter Egg. Therefore, it is no surprise why this redesign is so special to fans, especially since the creator supported it to such an extent. Now, with the new after-credit scene in Attack on Titan: The Last Attack, Goth Mikasa not only comes to life through the official anime release but also provides a special ending where fans can see a much happier conclusion for all the characters involved.
