Wei Joins BLG as Their New Mid-Laner
On December 5th, BLG officially confirmed their roster for the 2025 season. In addition to the departure of Xun, notable names such as Bin, Knight, Elk, and On have joined the team. Furthermore, after a period of being loaned from RNG, Wei has officially joined BLG and will become the main mid-laner for the team. This roster is viewed as a strong combination that will help the team continue to thrive in the LPL for the upcoming 2025 season.
However, Wei’s situation is quite complex. The requirement to secure a position in MSI 2021 and 2022 made joining BLG significantly more challenging. It is important to note that this year’s LPL organizers have strict rules that prevent any teams from buying or selling players during the transfer window. Meanwhile, RNG, Wei’s former team, had a limited budget and was unable to afford any transfer fees before the transfer window closed. Consequently, players from RNG looking to transfer had only two options: accept a pay cut or leave without compensation.
According to sources close to RNG, this transition was difficult and not straightforward for many players who were struggling with their current team. However, Wei chose to move forward and accepted a 6-month salary cut for 2024, which allowed him to quickly join BLG for the 2025 season. This cut was estimated at around 3.5 million RMB (approximately 12.5 billion VND) and is considered an unusually low salary for a player of Wei’s caliber.
A Bright Future Awaits Wei at BLG After Leaving RNG
From a fair standpoint, Wei had every reason to accept a lower salary to join BLG quickly. It is known that after their MSI 2022 championship, RNG rapidly fell from grace and struggled to maintain their competitive edge, causing Wei to leave the organization. However, the restrictive contract terms did not allow for an easy exit, and this situation caused significant financial strain on the team. Once he transitioned to BLG under a loan agreement after the end of the 2024 season, Wei still found himself in a position to be a top-tier mid-laner in the LPL.
After BLG’s official roster announcement, they have been evaluated as a top-tier team in the LPL. Even with other teams like TES or IG making significant roster changes recently, BLG’s lineup still stands out as stronger compared to theirs. Therefore, the opportunity to claim the LPL title in the 2025 season for BLG is quite high. Moreover, the training environment and facilities at BLG are also regarded as exceptional, ensuring that player performance will not be hindered. With Wei’s salary set at 3.5 million RMB, it remains uncertain whether he has received the ideal conditions, but it certainly represents a good opportunity for this talented player.
