Black Myth: Wukong Creates an Unprecedented Sensation in 2024, Making Waves Worldwide While Opening a New Trend for Game Developers
As clear as day, not everyone has the financial means to engage directly in this gaming experience. Many players opt to watch gameplay through “YouTube,” following others who dive into the explosive phenomenon of Game Science. There’s even an 8-bit version of Black Myth: Wukong available for those with lower-end devices.
Meanwhile, alongside these fun “fan-made” versions, many fans of Black Myth: Wukong have created a parody version inspired by this blockbuster.
Titled Wukong Sun: Black Legend, this game is developed by Global Game Studio and is set to launch on December 26. Currently, the game is being commemorated on the Nintendo eShop with a price tag of $7.99 (approximately 200,000 VND). Importantly, if you look at the gameplay trailer, many fans might feel as if they are being misled by the graphics, which evoke a distinct sense of nostalgia reminiscent of the Westward Journey. Even the promotional images seem to draw many viewers back to Black Myth: Wukong.
In essence, Wukong Sun: Black Legend resembles a “mouse-tail elephant duel” in its essence, being a 2D game that features simple graphics and gameplay that lacks any distinctive elements. This is in stark contrast to the lavish version of Black Myth: Wukong, which utilizes Game Science’s Unreal Engine 5. Debuting on December 23, it only took a short time to dominate the rankings on Weibo. And of course, much of the commentary in the discourse is centered around this “parody version.”
Most comments revolve around the parody version. Even the original source from the developing studio, Global Game Studio, has been “scrutinized” harshly, with many people noticing that this studio has only produced a limited number of simple games before today and has yet to create any product that has made a significant impact.
