Innovative “Player Feedback” Initiative by Sony
The phenomenon of gamers feeling “burned out” when a game becomes “difficult” is no longer a rare occurrence. However, when there is “frustration,” the opportunity to overcome challenges can be quite arduous, causing stress levels to rise and leading to fatigue.
Understanding this issue, Sony has recently proposed a remarkably “unique” initiative. According to reports, the company has submitted an application for a new feedback system, allowing players to interact with the game environment based on their locations and real-time situations, enabling the identification of emotional triggers and providing essential support.
In a straightforward manner, this initiative will record emotional responses that exceed the game’s limits, from adjusting difficulty levels, reducing challenges, to suggesting tweaks such as making bosses easier and decreasing loot drop rates…
Is Sony’s Solution Effective?
The official title of this feedback system is: “Method for location-based player feedback to improve games.” Sony believes that the real-time interaction of gamers while experiencing products is a highly potential source of feedback, yet it has not been fully exploited effectively and philosophically. If this system is successfully implemented, post-launch game versions will significantly improve, helping developers avoid initial investment setbacks and facilitating smoother progress.
However, this initiative is still in the application phase. Its potential to be applied in current game titles is still quite limited at this time.
