While the manga Jujutsu Kaisen concluded in September, the anime still has a long way to go. The third season of the anime has been confirmed right after the events of the Shibuya Incident arc in the manga.
Previously, the second season unveiled the complex plot surrounding Gojo, which remains the most crucial part of the story to date. The Shibuya Incident features numerous tragic events, with the stakes raised dramatically as Kenjaku successfully traps Gojo in the Prison Realm.
Now, the third season will unveil new information for the upcoming season at Jump Festa 2025. While it is certain that this season will be highly captivating, fans may feel disappointed if they hope to see Gojo in season three.
Satoru Gojo Will Not Appear in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3
One of Kenjaku’s primary objectives during the Shibuya Incident was to trap Gojo before the battle began. His success in this plan was a significant hurdle for the sorcerers involved.
The second season concluded with the appearance of Yuta, who was expected to take the mantle from Yuji. Yuta is the main character of the prequel film Jujutsu Kaisen 0, released in 2021, just a few months after the first season concluded. He makes his initial appearance in the main storyline after the climactic battle of the Shibuya Incident. Jujutsu Kaisen season three will adapt two arcs that precede the start of the Culling Game: Itadori Extermination and Perfect Preparation.
Although the Shibuya Incident arc ends at chapter 136, the anime has transitioned to chapter 137, which marks the beginning of the Itadori Extermination arc. With a total of 63 chapters, the Culling Game is the longest arc in the series. Gojo may remain trapped in the Prison Realm throughout the entirety of season three.
However, fans may still hold out hope to see Gojo in the opening and closing chapters, as well as in brief flashbacks throughout the main storyline.
What Should Fans Expect in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3?
The third season will kick off with the aftermath of the Shibuya Incident. Yuji is grappling with overwhelming emotions after having to take responsibility for numerous deaths during the incident. The Itadori Extermination arc will reveal Yuta’s genius plans to save Yuji Itadori. Additionally, the Perfect Preparation arc will address key battles within the JJK universe. Maki’s family, the Zenin clan, will force her to make decisive and perilous choices.
The Culling Game will be a bloody battle orchestrated by Kenjaku. He has sacrificed numerous sorcerers to create a formidable force and entice new sorcerers to join the fight. This battle royale will involve over a thousand players. However, Kenjaku’s true objective will only be achieved once the battle royale concludes. Amidst this chaos, Sukuna will have a separate scheme revolving around Megumi. Despite Gojo being out of the picture, fans can expect many thrilling developments in Jujutsu Kaisen season 3.
When Will Gojo Be Freed from the Prison Realm?
Gojo is freed from his confinement in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 221, marking the conclusion of the Culling Game arc. Sorcerers have been searching for nearly twenty days for a way to liberate him. This task is not straightforward as they must contend with multiple challenges along the way. The battle featuring the strongest sorcerers is expected to commence at the end of chapter 222.
Therefore, Gojo could potentially return in the fourth season, where he will engage in spectacular battles against the King of Curses.
