Black Myth: Wukong Enters the Final Round of Player’s Voice
Recently, the award ceremony The Game Awards 2024 announced the list of 5 nominees for the Player’s Voice category. The nominees are: Wuthering Waves, Zenless Zone Zero, Genshin Impact, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, and Black Myth: Wukong.
This is quite a surprising outcome, as there are currently up to 3 Gacha titles in the final round. Outside of Genshin Impact, which is considered a heavyweight, the participation of Wuthering Waves and Zenless Zone Zero is something few would have anticipated.
If we exclude these 3 titles, Black Myth: Wukong would be in a more favorable position, as it is a new title that has garnered significant attention and revenue, showing clear signs of exceeding expectations. In contrast, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is facing more challenges, as it is merely a DLC and not a completely new product.
What Are the Chances for Black Myth: Wukong to Win?
It cannot be denied that 2024 is a booming year for the Gacha game genre. Many blockbuster titles have emerged, yet the hot trend of this genre has not diminished, as evidenced by the strong performance of Wuthering Waves and Zenless Zone Zero currently.
The strength of the Gacha genre lies in its community of passionate players and the enthusiastic support from dedicated fanbases. Indeed, some products like Genshin Impact are still cultural phenomena, where players are encouraged to participate in large-scale campaigns to promote their favorite titles. This enthusiasm makes it difficult for any contender to compete with Gacha games in the Player’s Voice category.
It remains to be seen whether Black Myth: Wukong can shine brightly or not. Currently, the fandoms of the “Big 3 Gacha” are actively engaged and competing fiercely. The ultimate result will depend on the decisions of the players themselves.
