A Hacker Must Pay 40 Million USD to miHoYo?
Recently, DLA Piper – a renowned law firm with offices in over 40 countries worldwide – announced a serious legal matter related to the game publisher miHoYo. According to reports, DLA Piper has represented miHoYo in initiating a lawsuit against a hacker for violating intellectual property rights concerning the game title Genshin Impact.
It is known that miHoYo accused this hacker of creating a cheating software for Genshin Impact, violating technological protection measures (“TPMSâ€), in breach of copyright law. With the assistance of DLA Piper, the court has ruled that this hacker must compensate miHoYo 1.5 million USD (nearly 40 million VND), while also committing to refrain from further infringement.
miHoYo’s Case Reflects a Broader Trend in the Gaming Industry
In fact, miHoYo is not the only company facing such issues. Major players in the gaming industry like Riot Games, Blizzard Entertainment, and Valve have also had to confront similar challenges regarding intellectual property violations. The decisive actions taken by game publishers to investigate and address unlawful activities clearly demonstrate their commitment to protecting the rights of all stakeholders, including the gaming community.
Undoubtedly, the amount of 40 million VND serves as a significant warning to individuals with ill intentions who consider exploiting legal loopholes to engage in wrongful conduct. The gaming community is likely to continue upholding these standards, collectively striving to foster a gaming environment that is fair, just, and trustworthy.
