In recent years, Vietnamese cinema has made significant strides. There have been many remarkable works released, yet alongside these successes, there are still numerous films that attempt to leverage sensational content to attract audiences. However, when the underlying quality of the content does not meet expectations, these films ultimately face severe disappointments.
TrÃ
The Lunar New Year movie season of 2024 is characterized by a focus on hot and sensational scenes. While “Mai” has met with resounding success, “Trà ,” directed by Lê Hoà ng, features two well-known faces, Việt HÆ°Æ¡ng and TrÆ°Æ¡ng Minh Quốc Thái, but still fails to resonate in terms of audience reception.
“Trà ” explores the theme of extramarital affairs, telling the story of a man who has an illicit relationship with a young woman, leading to jealousy and conflict. With such a premise, the presence of hot scenes is not surprising. However, the film uses these scenes in a rather superficial manner, lacking the artistic intent that would evoke a sense of heat in the viewers.
To make matters worse, the amount of hot content that viewers have to witness is reportedly cut down by 70%. Despite the use of sensational scenes to attract viewers, “Trà ” ended up grossing only 1.6 billion VND, indicating its failure.
B4S: Trước GiỠYêu
In contrast to “Trà ,” we have “B4S: TrÆ°á»›c Giá» Yêu.” While “Trà ” features two national actors, “B4S: TrÆ°á»›c Giá» Yêu” stars popular figures like Khánh Vân, Tôn Kinh Lâm, and Jun VÅ©, which helped attract a significant audience.
Right from its promotional phase, “B4S: TrÆ°á»›c Giá» Yêu” has utilized the “18+” label to draw public attention. The trailer is filled with hot scenes, and the dialogue contains explicit content that makes the film stand out. However, when the movie debuted, audience reactions were lukewarm, with Jun Vũ’s portrayal in a revealing outfit being the most talked-about aspect.
The box office revenue of “B4S: TrÆ°á»›c Giá» Yêu” barely reached 4 billion VND. This is another testament to the struggles faced by Vietnamese films in maintaining quality amidst the sensationalism. It appears that just relying on hot scenes is not enough to ensure success.
Biết Äá»™i Hotgirl
Currently, “Biết Äá»™i Hotgirl” is one of the films attracting significant attention. The film poster features the appearance of People’s Artist Hoà ng DÅ©ng. However, in reality, he only has a minor supporting role. Furthermore, despite being a veteran actor, his role does not rescue “Biết Äá»™i Hotgirl” from its poor box office performance.
According to statistics from Box Office Vietnam, “Biết Äá»™i Hotgirl” has only reached approximately 26 million VND in revenue. Last weekend, the film ranked 15th on the box office chart and is likely to be one of the biggest fails in Vietnamese cinema this year.
“Biết Äá»™i Hotgirl” follows the story of six girls: Yi Yung, Hi Nê, Sùng Mị, Belana, Keo Suvan, and Saleha. They are mentored by a character named Hắc Vô Äạo, who trains them to become assassins. After a failed mission, they end up entangled with the notorious gangster Sakun. With the help of the assassin named Chiến, they manage to confront Sakun and escape, but not without facing serious challenges.
After just a few days of release, “Biết Äá»™i Hotgirl” has received considerable negative feedback. This film has been criticized for its weak plot, poor character development, and excessive focus on skin exposure. Despite the situation, the actresses in the film have faced criticism for their revealing outfits, prompting questions about the intentions of the filmmakers.
