One Piece: The Event of Rocky Port and Its Connection to Key Characters After the Time Skip
Koby has been recognized as a Marine hero, similar to his mentor Garp. However, the manga has not delved deeply into the events that transpired regarding the Rocky Port incident. Fortunately for One Piece fans, Oda has answered questions related to this event in the latest SBS session of Weekly Shonen Jump.
This SBS includes 10 important questions about the One Piece storyline, and the ninth question explains the significance of the Rocky Port incident.
The question posed was: “Could you please explain the Rocky Port incident that led to Koby being hailed as a Marine hero?”
Oda responded: “Explaining this would take too much time, and I don’t think it should be detailed in the main story. Instead, here’s a summary of the Rocky Port incident: It is said that the pirate crew captured a significant Poneglyph during an important mission, and Law had to commandeer a ship named Rocky Port to infiltrate the island.”
The ship in question was associated with a king and key figures from a nation that existed. However, the ship Law intended to use was a smuggling vessel, hoisted under the flag of a nation, and linked to the pirate crew, leading to significant complications.
Law encountered the pirates, and shortly after, Koby and Blackbeard arrived at the island for their own reasons, leading to a three-way confrontation. As a result of this situation, Blackbeard became the owner of the pirate base, Law was recognized as an infamous pirate, and Koby was hailed as a hero.
So, it turns out that the Rocky Port incident involved a temporary alliance between Law, Koby, and Blackbeard. However, this alliance was short-lived as the conflict continued to escalate. In the Egghead event arc, Blackbeard destroyed Law’s ship, and this name only barely escaped death.
Not only that, but Koby was also captured and imprisoned on Hachinosu until Garp and the SWORD members came to rescue him.
