The manga Kagurabachi has become an incredible hit in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine published by Shueisha since its debut last year. If the information about the anime adaptation from this manga is accurate, it is poised to be the next big hit in the making.
Recently, Toyo Keizai reported that an anime adaptation of Kagurabachi is currently in progress, along with several other exciting titles, which could potentially lead to one of the most significant anime releases in the near future.
This is something that fans of Kagurabachi have been eagerly anticipating, even before the first chapter of the series was released.
Kagurabachi’s Anime is in the Right Hands
According to reports from Toyo Keizai, Cyberagent and Shochiku are currently on the committee to plan the production of the Kagurabachi anime. These two companies have successfully overseen the release of notable titles such as Oshi no Ko, Zombieland Saga Revenge, Noragami, and movies like A Silent Voice and Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King.
The reports also clarify that the production process will be closely monitored by both companies as a collaboration to avoid overwhelming one company with excessive workloads, especially considering the distribution of multiple anime.
It is worth noting that this collaboration is particularly significant for Kagurabachi, as unlike many other mangas currently being published in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump, Hokazono’s work has the potential to achieve success in the Western market.
The protagonist Chihiro Rokuhira embarks on a bloody revenge quest, with the author Hokazono drawing inspiration from characters like John Wick for his storyline. Thus, from the outset, Kagurabachi has been designed to achieve global success upon the anime’s release. Therefore, the anime must make an excellent first impression.
Both production companies are closely managing the planning, clearly delineating job responsibilities, which is a fantastic starting point.
Kagurabachi Needs to Be Produced as Best as Possible
Due to previous experiences, poor planning, and inadequate staffing often lead to subpar anime adaptations, and Kagurabachi has managed to avoid such pitfalls.
The manga itself has only released up to 60 chapters at this point. Therefore, Kagurabachi could potentially become one of the first anime to be released seasonally, transitioning into two or three seasons initially. Thus, it is hoped that it will have enough chapters available to support anime production.
Reports also indicate that Cygames Pictures will be involved in the animation process. Although no staff has been confirmed at this early planning stage, this studio is known for notable releases such as Princess Connect! Re:Dive (which features some remarkable animation scenes), Brave Bang Bravern!, and most recently, The Summer Hikaru Died, which will be released next summer.
This won’t be the first anime that fans can expect from a Shonen Jump title (a brand that Shueisha hopes to nurture as the next big name in the industry), but it could be a standout choice.
Kagurabachi is not being handled by a studio that has a history of high production workload like Pierrot with Naruto or Bleach, Bones with My Hero Academia, or MAPPA with Jujutsu Kaisen (and many more). This means that Kagurabachi could receive the top-tier treatment that both Shueisha and fans are eagerly waiting for.
If everything goes smoothly, the anime adaptation of Kagurabachi could be one of the most anticipated releases when it debuts in 2026 or 2027.
