BeryL Trains for His “Last Dance” with Deft
Reflecting on the 2022 Worlds championship win of DRX, many fans are still emotionally moved by the incredible journey of Deft and his team. It is important to note that before participating in the 2022 Worlds, Deft had shared with the media that this would be his “Last Dance,” committing to give his all in this final high-stakes competition. When Deft and DRX captured the Worlds title in 2022, the fans were filled with the sentiment of a “Last Dance,” symbolizing the shining moments of a storied career. In a recent interview, one of Deft’s closest teammates, BeryL, is also preparing for a similar commitment as he sets his sights on the upcoming 2025 season.
“2024 will be my final season, and 2025 will be the last season of my career, which is why we have talked a lot about what comes after our retirement. We believe that the careers of League of Legends players are quite short, and there are only a few who can ‘disappear’ without many people noticing. Therefore, I want to strive hard to win the 2025 Worlds title, just like a final dance so that I can end my career in a magnificent and dignified manner,” BeryL shared with Korean media.
Looking at the history of Worlds championships, fans will notice that BeryL is quite an exceptional case in the professional League of Legends scene. Notably, among those who have won the Worlds title more than once, almost all of them have had the opportunity to wear the SKT T1 jersey at least once. However, BeryL is unique as he has won the Worlds title twice without ever donning the SKT T1 or T1 jersey. This fact highlights BeryL’s elite status and his potential to lead his team at significant tournaments like Worlds.
The 2025 Season Awaits BeryL and DK
Despite an impressive performance, BeryL still faces significant challenges in the upcoming season to help DK reach the prestigious title of Worlds champions in 2025. The roster of DK this season has encountered various difficulties, particularly as newcomers Siwoo and Lucid are still relatively inexperienced in high-stakes competitions. Meanwhile, Aiming has not been highly rated as a player, especially in important matches. Thus, the success of DK’s roster in the upcoming 2025 season is a significant challenge.
Moreover, other teams at LCK (and further afield in LPL) have been making substantial upgrades recently. For instance, HLE has seen contributions from Zeus, while Gen.G has had a strong comeback led by Ruler. Although T1 remains a formidable opponent with two consecutive Worlds titles, to elevate DK to the level of championship contenders and capture the 2025 Worlds title, BeryL and his teammates will need to put in a lot of effort. If they succeed, BeryL could very well become one of the most notable figures in League of Legends history.
