The Young People’s Association of Vietnam is celebrating the 9th National Congress of the Vietnam Federation of Disabled Persons (2024-2029) while honoring the annual National Day for Persons with Disabilities on December 3, with the theme for 2024 being “Enhancing the role of AI in the lives of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future.” The Vietnam Federation of Disabled Persons is organizing a commemorative program with a series of meaningful activities aimed at empowering creativity and promoting social integration, removing barriers, and directing vocational opportunities for disabled youth.
In this context, the development of the esports movement for the disabled community is one of the highlighted activities of this significant program.
According to Mr. Phạm Văn Thành, Chairman of the Vietnam Federation of Disabled Persons, at the opening ceremony of the event, paraesports is a valuable playing field that helps disabled youth to hone their skills, enhance their health, and connect with each other. The tournament is also a means to build a vibrant esports culture for people with disabilities, providing resources for athletes to participate in the Para eSports competition at Paragames 2025 in Thailand. Esports also opens up new career opportunities for disabled youth such as content creation, streaming, commentary, video editing, and programming.
According to reports, Paraesports is expected to kick off in the second quarter of 2025, with the Vietnam Federation of Disabled Persons partnering with Ocean Entertainment Group (OEG) to organize it. A representative from OEG shared: “OEG focuses on promoting esports as an inclusive playground for everyone, especially for persons with disabilities. Paraesports is a new field in esports, offering competition and exchange opportunities for the disabled community, and helping them to engage in a professional competitive environment. This is a significant breakthrough in the eSports industry, opening up many opportunities and development potential for the entire disabled community and the national eSports scene.”
Alongside the theme “Connecting and Creating,” the program also shares the potential of creative content designed for disabled youth through artificial intelligence (AI), aiming to encourage disabled youth to overcome barriers in quality of life and society, emphasizing that modern technologies like AI are tools that help them access equal opportunities in creativity and development.
According to Mr. Thành, with the advanced features of AI, disabled youth have the opportunity to access and utilize these tools to overcome barriers and improve their quality of life.
The Vietnam Federation of Disabled Persons is currently collaborating with leading AI experts in Vietnam to train, study, and implement AI projects to support disabled youth. AI can be used to assist in learning, helping people with disabilities access knowledge more easily; to communicate more effectively, overcoming language barriers; and smart mobility aids integrated with AI can help persons with disabilities move more independently and safely; as well as create content in online environments.
Not only carrying meaningful commemorative significance; aimed at honoring the talents, abilities, and aspirations of disabled youth, the program also has a strong focus on creating sustainable value, inspiring and promoting the comprehensive social integration of the community.
